Respect The Reader: Write Meaningful Content

Day 132–135/365:

When I started writing on January 1, I imagined I would write every day and that was my plan — to show up every day, no matter what. Yet, as the days went by, I realised that writing every day is not easy. After all, there are days too when nothing worth writing happens. What do you do then? Yes, flexing the mental muscles is essential, but writing just for the sake of writing is no use. It is fooling yourself and the readers too. So, I let such days pass. I don’t write, but reading continues; after all, content is all around you in physical and digital formats, right? And reading fuels the writing process. How? As you read you stumble upon interesting content, sometimes you disagree with existing content, and at other times, you may have your own thoughts on it which you cannot put in as a comment there, but you can always write on your page and share your thoughts with your readers.

So, every reader I think, should write not just for themselves, but for their readers too. Let us neither underestimate nor belittle our readers. After all, a writer exists because readers are with them on their journey, reading along. If not for them, what are we? Recently, I went on a trip and spent all the time looking around, lest inspiration escapes me. I was mentally analysing situations we were in, carefully observing our interactions so that I can write something worthwhile. And in the process, I gave my writing process a short recess. Will share my observations in the forthcoming posts.

What have you been doing over the weekend?
